Canberra woman accused of leading police on chase, crashing car in hedges

A woman accused of leading police on a chase across Holt before crashing her car into a hedge overnight has been arrested.

Police said officers saw a silver Ford Falcon sedan travelling south on Starke Street in Holt about 1.20am on Monday.

The police chase ended with a car in a hedge.

The car allegedly failed to stop for police, accelerating out of sight. Later, when the vehicle turned out of Luke Street in front of police, it again tried to escape.

"However, a short time later the vehicle collided heavily with the gutter, mounting the green belt and becoming lodged in some hedges," ACT Policing said in a statement.

The 21-year-old driver, from Holt, jumped out of the car and tried to flee, along with her passenger, but both were taken into custody a short distance from the car.

"After speaking with the driver and her passenger, police conducted several checks, resulting in the driver being taken into police custody," police said.

The woman was charged with failing to stop a vehicle for police, using an unregistered and uninsured car, driving unlicensed, as well as negligent driving and apprehension under warrant.

She will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.
