No notice received from Sode mutt: Shiroor Seer

MANGALURU : Sri Lakshmivara Theertha, the present pontiff of Shiroor mutt, has denied that he has got any notice from the Sode Mutt.

It may be recalled that an emergency meeting held by seers of Astha Mutts of Udupi in the second week of March had decided to take “appropriate action’’ against Lakshmivara Theertha for levelling allegations against them. An electronic media channel had aired a voice clipping alleged to be of the Shiroor seer, stating that he had children, and that the seers of other Astha Mutts too had children.

“Since we are pushed into sanyasa at a young age, we too have desires,’’ he had stated in a voice clipping, that was alleged to be his. However, the Shiroor seer, after the clipping was aired, clarified that he had not spoken these words, and that someone had tried to mimic his voice. He also said that the clipping was six-months-old, and that he had taken the matter to court.

On Sunday, the Shiroor Mutt seer, through his emissary, told TOI that he does not want to talk about this issue, as it is sub judice. “As far as the receipt of notice from the Sode Mutt is concerned, I wish to say that I have not got any till date,’’’ he said through his representative.

The Shiroor pontiff has also decided to take a plunge into the electoral fray from the Udupi assembly constituency.
