49 roads in the district to get a lease of life

KOCHI: Along with the launch of two major flyovers in Ernakulam district, the state government will focus on more infrastructure projects including revamping of 49 roads. The Works Minister had already sanctioned Rs 93.85 crore for the renovation of 34 roads under Ernakulam PWD division and 15 roads under Muvattupzha division. Out of the total allocation, Rs 6.95 crore will be set apart for the roads in Kochi constituency. As much as Rs 2.3 cr will be used for re-tarring of Kumbalangi-Ezhupunna Road. Another Rs 75 lakh will be set aside for the renovation of the culvert at P T Jacob Road. For the renovation of roads in Tripunithura, the total allocation is Rs seven crore.

Rs two crore is the amount allotted for Kumbalam Road. The other roads in Tripunithura, including Ettumanoor-Ernakulam Road, Elamana Road, Thamarakulangara Road, Anchal Office Road, Panamkutty Landing Road, Kanad Branch Road, Kettezhuthukadavu Road, Chakkamkulangara Road and Sanskrit College Road will get a collective fund of Rs five crore. For Thrikkakara constituency, Rs  6.06 crore is the total allocation for road renovation. Vennala-Palachuvadu Road, Vennala-Janatha Road, Edappally Bazar-Arakkakkadavu Road and Vyttila-Palarivattom Road will be repaired. The total allocation for the repair works is Rs three crore. The Manimala Road at Thrikkakkara will be renovated with the help of Rs 1.10 crore allotted by the government while Rs 1.96 crore is set aside for the Athani-Mumbaalam Road. The much-awaited restructuring work of the road at Ernakulam Broadway, which is one of the major shopping spots in the city, is expected to be carried out this year. The government had sanctioned Rs 2.92 crore for the work. Chittoor-Moolampilly Road, Peroor Landing Road and other roads will also be repaired.

In Paravur Assembly constituency, Rs 5.96-crore worth road development works will be carried out this year. The Mala-Elanthikkara Road and Paravur-Chathanad Road are the two major roads that will be revamped. Kalamassery, Angamaly, Aluva and Vypeen constituencies will get Rs seven crore, Rs 6.30 crore, Rs six crore and Rs 7.84 crore respectively. Out of the total allocation, Rs 50 lakh is for the construction of Akkamma culvert at Kalamassery and box culvert at Kongorpalli- Olanad Road. The drainage system at Manjummal- Muttar Road will be repaired. The Kottappuram-Maambra Road, the stretch between Thadikkadavu Junction and bridge will also be renovated. The Angamaly Kariyad-Mattoor Road will see renovation works worth Rs 2.40 crore. The Cherayi Beach Road and Cheruvypee Road will also be renovated.
