New EnglandThe New England area has been witnessing its highest volume of domestic overnight expenses on record as per the latest National Visitor Survey from Tourism Research Australia.

Adam Marshall who is a member for Northern Tablelands and Minister for Tourism and Major Events mentioned that the news was truly brilliant one for the regional tourism and economy sector.

Mr. Marshall went on to add that a large amount of tourism money is being spent in various regions and would be pooled straight into the pockets of local restaurants, pubs, boutiques and businesses.

He said that last year Australian tourists had spent $338 million in the New England North West that marks a significant rise of 33.5% from the previous year.

He mentioned that there were about 1.6 million tourists up by 9.7% who had stayed for 4.7 million nights, up 17.4% in the region the last year. New England North West is Regional NSW’s fifth most popular market for visitors and nights and sixth highest for expenditure in the year 2017.

Mr. Marshall also stated that tourism is the business of almost everyone and more visitors would imply more money that is being spent locally and also lead to increased number of employment opportunities for regional people in this fast growing industry.
