Shopping complex planned on market premises

The Edappadi Municipality has proposed to construct multi-storeyed shopping complex on daily market premises in the town.

The project was a part of the golden jubilee of the formation of the Edappadi Municipality.

The State Government has sanctioned various development projects in connection with the golden jubilee of the municipality, according to Edappadi municipality sources.

The municipality planned a multi-storeyed complex and had issued notice to the people running shops in the daily market area near the municipal busstand to vacate them. All the traders had already vacated the shops.

The municipality presented petition to the Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami seeking sanction and funds for the construction of the multi-storeyed shopping complex.

On the recommendation of the Chief Minister, funds were allotted for the project under the Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Development Project.

The Municipality has proposed to construct multi-storeyed complex to house 42 shops at an outlay of ₹ 2.90 crore, the sources said.

The municipality demolished the old structures present on the site on Sunday.
