The government will take care of the treatment of Vasu, a patient who was tortured by a nursing assistant at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Thiruvananthapuram.

Health Minister K.K. Shylaja, who visited Vasu’s house near Anakkulam on Saturday, assured financial aid for the coconut tree climber who was hospitalised after a fall. He will soon be shifted to the Punalur Taluk Hospital where he will receive free medical attention.

Vasu’s family had been living in miserable conditions with hardly any income. He continued to work even at an advanced age to take care of his wife and his late daughter’s son. Unni, his grandson, had discontinued studies due to financial constraints. Now the Department of Social Justice will fund his studies.

After getting discharged from the medical college hospital, Vasu was staying with his son Binu. Binu’s father-in-law is also ailing and the Minister said treatment would be provided to him as well.

Video goes viral

A couple of days back, a video in which a nursing assistant twisted the fingers of Vasu went viral.

“This incident happened while we are striving to change the image of government hospitals. Strong action will be taken against the person,” the Minister said.
