Early bird incentive for property tax payers

GVMC officials hopeful of collecting ₹40 crore in April

Payment of property tax for 2018-19 from April 1 to 30 will get an early bird incentive of 5 %. The assessees have to pay the entire year’s property tax and no demand notice will be issued.

The amount can be paid online or at ‘Saukaryam’ or ‘Mee Seva’ centres.

However, it would not be applicable for payment of arrears, Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan said. In 2017-18 around ₹30 crore was paid in the first month deriving the benefit of the incentive.

Officials are confident that their efforts will make the advance payment go up by ₹10 crore, netting ₹40 crore of the property tax in the first month itself.

Payments improve

During the last few days, remittance of property tax has improved considerably and peaked on Saturday, the last day.

While ₹2.35 lakh was received on March 28, it jumped to ₹2.85 crore on March 29. the collection was ₹2 crore on March 30,a holiday.

According to Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) R. Somannarayana, the remittance touched a record high of ₹12 crore on the last day. It included some big receipts like Andhra University remitting ₹3.89 crore.

Against a demand of ₹260 crore the payment till Saturday evening was ₹246 crore, he said.
