ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) " Cynthia Nixon knows it won't be easy to beat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, but says voters tell her they're ready for change.

In an interview with The Associated Press, the "Sex and the City" star explained her decision to challenge Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

The New York native and longtime education activist says Cuomo has failed to fight corruption, fix New York City's subways or address inequalities in schools.

Nixon told the AP she is so far undaunted by polls showing her trailing Cuomo by a large margin and by questions about whether she has the experience necessary to lead one of the nation's biggest states.

She says she seeks to show New York voters she's "so much more than an actor."
