The Indian business community in Singapore is an integral part of the enterprise eco-system that has actively contributed to the country's economy and society, a Singaporean minister has said.
Speaking at the Singapore Indian Entrepreneur Awards last night, Trade and Industry Ministry S Iswaran has applauded the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (SICCI) role in nurturing the Indian business community.
SICCI, Iswaran said, has served as an important bridge for the city state's Indian business community, enabling its members to gain access to new business opportunities, understand and benefit from government initiatives, and embrace new technology and productivity tools.
"We have a strong base of respected Indian business leaders who have not only succeeded in their ventures, but have also actively contributed to our economy and society," Iswaran said.
He said the Indian business community was an integral part of the enterprise eco-system.
Several noted entrepreneurs were honoured at the award ceremony. Among the award winners was industrialist Dr Bhupendra Kumar Modi, chairman of Spice Group.
The award recognised Modi, now a Singaporean citizen, as an international Indian philanthropist of the year 2018.
"Global citizenship is crucial to success in business. Only when you believe you are a citizen of the world, you can strive to make it a better place," said Modi on getting the award.
Also honoured with awards were SICCI chairman Dr R Theyvendran for lifetime business achievement and AirAsia Group chief executive Tony Fernandes for being most inspiring and influential Indian business leader.
