MEERUT: It was quite a day for the Punjab National Bank manager and other staff in Hapur on Saturday. Mangal Singh, 33, a local, resident, went to bank’s Garh road branch and said he wanted to withdraw Rs 150 crore from his account.
The man was carrying four gunnysacks to carry back the cash. He filled the withdrawal form as many of the bank’s staff looked with curiosity.

The cashier informed the bank manager .

Singh had earlier approached a police station to seek security cover to ferry the cash back home.

However, the bank manager probed Singh’s account and found out that it had been lying defunct since 2016 and had no money.

Bank security tried to whisk him away but he refused to budge. After he tried to assault the security guard, police were called in.

He was detained briefly before his family arrived at the local police station and claimed that Singh was mentally unstable.

He was let off without any charges.
