European budget airlines target fresh opportunities in the Middle East

RyanairOf late, two of Europe’s beat discount airlines have started to target fresh business opportunities in the Middle East.

During February 2018, the Ireland-based budget carrier Ryanair declared that it was expanding in the Middle East with its first flights to Jordan. Last month the airline flew its inaugural routes between Cyprus and Amman.

Initially it was offering prices around $25 a ticket.

The airline then went on to add that it would be launching additional routes between Amman and many European markets later this year and also plans to commence flights to Aqaba that is the resort town of Jordan’s Red Sea.

It is yet to be known as to whether that Ryanair would continue to expand into new regional markets.

But then the airline also said that it expects to transport nearly 500,000 customers every year on its new routes to Jordan. David O’ Brein who is the Chief Commercial Officer of Ryanair asserted that these new routes would introduce fresh business and leisure tourists from as many as eleven European nations to one of the most attractive tourist locales in the world.

On the other hand, the rival of Ryanair, EasyJet recently said that it was checking out new opportunities in the Middle East as part of its long-haul connections program Worldwide by EasyJet.

Last year, the British air carrier started partnering with long-haul carriers like Norwegian and WestJet to permit its customers to connect to various flights on the same booking for the first time.

Previously, the customers of EasyJet were restricted to short-haul flights since the airline did not operate long-haul routes.

In March 2018, EasyJet had announced that it was extending its long-haul connections program to additional airports in Europe while at the same time looking towards Asia and the Middle East as well.

EasyJet and Ryanair are not the only European discount carriers that are operating routes in the Middle East but then the overall options are still limited. Hungary-based Wizz Air presently offers flights to Dubai while the Lativia-based AirBaltic flies to Abu Dhabi.
