NEW DELHI: Eight terrorists were killed on Sunday in an multiple encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's
Shopian and
Anantnag district, reported news agency ANI.
Two encounters are simultaneously underway in Shopian, one in
Dragad village, and the other in Kachdoora village.
Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid confirmed in a tweet that the bodies of seven terrorists, including top commanders, have been recovered from Dragad village. A huge cache of weapons has also been recovered.
In Kachdoora, four to five terrorists are believed to be holed up in houses and several civilians are also trapped with them. Efforts are on to rescue the civilians, added DGP Vaid.
Two army personnel were injured in each of the separate encounters.
Earlier in the day, one terrorist was gunned down and another was arrested alive in an
encounter which took place in Dialgam area of Anantnag.
Acting on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in Dialgam, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area, a police official said.
The search operation turned into an encounter after the ultras fired upon the forces. In retaliatory firing by security forces, one terrorist was killed, the official said.
