‘SIT should speed up Ayesha murder probe’

Activists decry delay in aid to Satyam Babu acquitted in the case

Members of the Forum for Justice for Ayesha met on Saturday and demanded that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), appointed by the High Court, speed up its investigation to identify the killers of Ayesha Meera at Nandigama hostel in December, 2007.

Forum convenor R. Ganga Bhavani said it had been one year since the accused in the case, Satyam Babu, was acquitted but the promises made to him by the government were not met.

“He was not given the house or house plot as directed. Even 10 years after the murder of the young girl the killers are still at large,” she said.

“Though there is a clear directive to government by the High Court no proper steps have been taken to nab the culprits,” she said.

Ms. Bhavani said the SIT was set up after a public litigation case was filed by the mother of Ayesha Meera and a social activist, Devi. She said the members went round the city and collected signatures as part of the campaign to seek justice.
