PITTSBURG — Shots were falling in the SEK High School All-Star game on Friday inside John Lance Arena, where team ESPN 100.7 set an all-time scoring record in the 105-68 win over team KSHQ in the girls’ game followed by a 125-97 win for ESPN 100.7 in the boys’ contest.
GIRLS’ TEAM SETS SCORING RECORD IN WIN
Girard’s Sydnee Cain led the way among local kids, scoring 16 points for team KSHQ.
“I loved having the opportunity to come out and play tonight,” Crain said. “I had some great teammates and they made it fun for me.”
Pittsburg High School’s Abbie Casper posted 10 points in the win.
“It was a really awesome experience,” Casper said. “Just to be able to play with girls from around the area who you never had played with before and to be able to shoot as well as we did during the game was great.”
Taylor Peterson of Frontenac tallied eight points for team KSHQ.
“It was really fun to compete in this game,” Peterson said. “Even though nobody was taking it seriously, but it was great to get the feel of the game one more time before I start my career in the military.”
Jacey Murphy from Girard chipped in four points of her own to add to 100.7’s tally.
“We meshed from the beginning,” Murphy said. All of the girls looked for the open player instead of playing selfish, and we scored 105 points which was really cool.”
Marci VanBecelaere of St. Mary’s-Colgan notched four points for KSHQ.
“I’ve been watching some of my teammates play in the game for the past few years and I always wanted to be able to play myself,” VanBecelaere said. “I was finally able to do that today and it was so much fun being able to play alongside the best players from all of the other schools.”
Tristan Gegg from Labette County won the three point contest, sinking 10 3-pointers in the one-minute time limit, while Meagan Wright took home the MVP award.
ESPN 100.7 COMES OUT ON TOP IN BOYS’ GAME
ESPN 100.7 used a barrage of three-pointers to beat the White team in a fast-paced game. The Red team made 27 three-pointers in the contest.
Marque English from Pittsburg High School led the White team with 26 points, and won the dunk contest.
“It was a fun time,” English said. “I got to come out here, play in front of a great crowd and just have some fun.”
Colgan’s Jeremiah Buche scored 18 points for the KSHQ.
“It was a lot of fun for me,” Buch said. “This is the last game of my high school career, so to just come out here and have fun with other all-star athletes was great.”
Dylan Wilson from Southeast added five points of his own to team KSHQ.
“It was a great honor to be selected to play because I wasn’t expecting it,” White said. “To be able to share the court with some of the best players in the area was great. I don’t see them a lot since I play at a smaller school, so it was nice to be apart it.”
Girard’s Ethan Goff netted 12 points for 100.7.
“It was a honor to be able to play with SEK’s best players, and to be able to get that win,” Golf said. “We were raining threes, which was really fun to be apart of, but again, it's a honor to be able to represent your home team one more time and put on a show for the fans.”
Pittsburg’s Drew Roelfs scored 10 for 100.7.
“It was really fun to be able to share the court with all these great players who were shooting the lights out,” Roelfs said. “I thought I had a decent game, I got a dunk down, so that was exciting.”
Fort Scott’s Jesse Jones won the three-point shootout with a score of 15.
