VELLORE

A 23-year-old youth lost his leg in a train accident but not the love of his college mate. The young couple tied the knot at the Government Hospital (GH), Vaniyambadi, on Saturday.

Vijay, a resident of Vaniyambadi, was in love Shilpa. In January this year, he was returning home after attending an interview in Bengaluru when he fell off the train near Bangarapet.

Leg amputated

His left leg below the knee had to be amputated at a hospital in Karnataka. Later, he was admitted to the GH at Vaniyambadi and was operated for a fracture in the right leg. He is recovering, an official source said.

“He has been undergoing treatment at Vaniyambadi GH for two months. He is doing well, and will recover within two months,” a source said. A relative of Vijay said they got married with the consent of their families.

The marriage took patients and staff of the hospital by surprise. Hospital authorities said the girl arrived at the hospital, and the wedding took place “all of a sudden”.
