He spoke to the West Godavari district police officials and sought details of the incident. He also directed the authorities to make required arrangements to shift the bodies to their native Jagadalpur in Chhattisgarh.

According to Polavaram sub-inspector K Srihari Rao, a group of 10 tourists came to Sivagiri in Polavaram mandal and stayed in a private resort to visit the picturesque Papikondalu.

On Saturday morning, four persons got into the river, close to the resort, for a bath and accidentally drowned. The villagers jumped into the waters and fished out the bodies before informing the police.

Police said the resort did not have a valid licence and complaints were made against it by the tahsildar on earlier occasions, but to no avail.

On receipt of information, Jangareddygudem revenue divisional officer (RDO) Mohan Rao visited the accident spot. He said stern action will be taken against the resort which does not even have a valid licence.
