Clarence Bird Jr., 92, of Concord, Va., stepped into the presence of his Lord, on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Bedford Hospice House, in Bedford. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at Thomas Terrace Baptist Church, 10666 Richmond Highway, Lynchburg, Va. Pastor Mark Grooms will be officiating, along with Pastor Mike Grooms of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church assisting in the service. Interment will follow at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Concord, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the mission's ministry of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church. Clarence was born on July 22, 1925, in Geistown, Pa., to the late Clarence Sr. and Freda (Laymen) Bird of Geistown, Pa. On September 16, 1951, he married the love of his life, Kathryn Irene Bird (Krise), and they were married for 50 years. Clarence is survived by his three children, Renee Grooms and her husband, Mark, of Concord, Va., Jeff Bird and his wife, Debbie, of Manassas, Va., and Greg Bird of Concord, Va.; five grandchildren, Daniel Grooms, Chris Grooms, Rachel Justice (Grooms), Lyndsey Bird and Justin Bird; six great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents in 1979, his brother Richard in 1973, and his wife Kathryn in 2002. Clarence was a drywall finisher for over 40 years in the Northern Virginia area. He loved his family and friends, and loved serving as an usher and greeter at Thomas Terrace Baptist Church where he was a member for 27 years. He had a passion for missionaries, which he supported through prayer and financial giving. He taught Sunday school for over 20 years at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fairfax, Va., before moving to Concord. Since January of 2018, Clarence Bird lived out his reaming days at the Bedford Hospice House.
