AHMEDABAD/ SURAT: It was a walk that the UK national will cherish all his life. Hiten Patel, 55, and his wife Sangita, 51, began a reverse Dandi March — walking from Dandi to Ahmedabad — to spread the message of Article 51A of Indian Constitution, which lists fundamental duties to be performed by each citizen.

Patel, who calls himself 'Bharatvasi On Duty' (BonD), began his march on March 12 and reached Ahmedabad on Sunday. He highlighted issues like upholding and protecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country, promoting harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities; and to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women.

He also highlighted the need to protect and improve the natural environment and develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry.

Patel took voluntary retirement in 2013 after 22 years of service to the UK government.
