CPI not consulted on proposed Federal Front, says Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy

Communist Party of India (CPI) secretary, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had not consulted them on the Federal Front.

At a press conference here, he said that without explaining his stand on the Central government’s policies, GST, communalism and demonetisation, Mr. Rao cannot ask parties to join the front.

On the national issues, he alleged that the Central government is deliberately not taking up the no-confidence motion fearing defeat or emergence of opposition within the party and also the partners. He said it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that the House functions smoothly.

He alleged that the government is reluctant to establish the Cauvery Board fearing opposition in Karnataka elections. On the recent communal clashes witnessed in West Bengal and Bihar, he alleged that the BJP is promoting communal clashes for political benefit.

Mr. Reddy said Supreme Court’s observations on the misuse of SC and ST Atrocities Act had to be discussed by the Full Bench of the Court in view of opposition from Dalit and Left groups in the country. He said the CPI would support the protests planned by various groups on April 2 on the issue.

CPI State secretary Chada Venkata Reddy said that the new Panchayat Raj Act brought in by the TRS government would increase mistrust and differences between various groups in the villages.

He ridiculed the Chief Minister for speaking on social justice without inducting a single woman in the Cabinet.

The second CPI State conference to be held in the city from April 1 to 4 will discuss the failures of the government, political suppression, defections promoted by the TRS, social justice among others.

A meeting will be held at the Exhibition Grounds on Saturday as a part of the conference.
