MUMBAI: Dalit organisations and Left outfits have planned a protest march in the city on Monday demanding that a review petition be filed in the Supreme Court against the ruling preventing the registration of offences under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act without conducting a preliminary inquiry.

The state government has already said it will file a review petition before the apex court. On March 23, social justice minister Rajkumar Badole convened a meeting of the the police department's civil rights defence wing, home, law and judiciary departments and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission to discuss the issue and instructed them to submit a review petition in the SC.

He also said that the government will seek the opinion of legal experts, and that the Attorney General of India would appear on behalf of the Maharashtra government before the SC.
