Man in custody after allegedly pointing replica handgun at Saskatoon police officer, dog
28-year-old faces multiple charges after Saturday morning incident involving officer and canine partner
A 28-year-old man is facing firearm charges after allegedly pointing a replica handgun at a Saskatoon police officer and his canine partner.
Police say the incident happened early Saturday morning at Northumberland Avenue and 33rd Street West.
According to police, the officer was parked on the side of the road when he saw the suspect pointing what appeared to be a handgun in various directions.
After the officer got out of his patrol car to talk to the man, the 28-year-old turned toward the officer and began swearing, according to police.
He then allegedly pointed the handgun directly at the officer.
The officer then released his canine partner and the man allegedly pointed the replica handgun at the police dog as well.
Eventually the dog took the man to the ground.
The man was taken into custody and treated by medics for injuries consistent with a dog bite.
The 28-year-old is facing multiple charges and will appear before a justice of the peace this weekend.
