BHUBANESWAR: The first-phase of the budget session of the state assembly concluded on Saturday with passage of the appropriation of Rs 16,500 crore vote-on-account for the first month of 2018-19 financial year.

“Since it was not possible to complete the entire budget process by end of the current financial year (March 31), we have decided to go for vote on account to continue financial allocation to ongoing programmes,” said finance minister Shashi Bhusan Behera.

The annual budget worth Rs 1.20 lakh crore for 2018-19 fiscal was presented in the state assembly by Behera on March 23.

The second phase will begin from April 11 and continue till May 5, according to the schedule. Appropriation bill of the full budget will be passed on April 30.
