Loras A. Soppe, 76, of Cascade, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade.
Friends and relatives of Loras may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friends and relatives of Loras also may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Services for Loras will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke presiding. Flag presentation will be afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528. Burial will be held at a later date.
Loras was born Sept. 8, 1941, in Placid, Iowa, the son of Reynold Henry and Albertha K. (Kelchen) Soppe. He received his education in the rural Placid-area country schools. On Jan. 15, 1966, he was united in marriage to Erma Theisen at Holy Family Catholic Church in Peosta, Iowa. He was employed at Steger Construction and also owned and operated Sups Repairs.
He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade. He was an Air Force veteran, having served from 1959 to 1962.
He is survived by his wife, Erma Soppe of Cascade, Iowa; four children, Christina Soppe of West Union, Iowa, Michael Soppe (Merill Guarneri) of Calmar, Iowa, Jacqueline Goedken of Two Harbors, Minn., and Jeremy Soppe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Carina Soppe of Le Mars, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Louis (Jeri) Soppe of Monticello, Iowa, Leo (Donna) Soppe of Cascade, Iowa, Connie (George) Helle of Anamosa, Iowa, Diane (Al) Nerney of Oxford Junction, Iowa, Carol Oberbroeckling of Farley, Iowa, Beverly (Dave) Holz of Dubuque, Iowa, and Deborah (John) Steger of Dyersville, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Doris Soppe of Dyersville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Chris Soppe on June 18, 2016; one brother, Andrew Soppe in 1988; and one brother-in-law, Bill Oberbroeckling in 1996.
