Ghazipur tense after 1 injured in clash between two groups

Heavy police deployment in area; two FIRs registered

Four persons were arrested for allegedly firing at a man in east Delhi’s Ghazipur area on Thursday evening.

The police said that a clash broke out between two groups over supremacy in the wholesale market.

FIRs registered

Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Omvir Singh said that they have registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) in the matter based on complaints from both groups.

“The clash was between two groups headed by one Devender’s family members and one Jabar Pehelwan’s family. First, the quarrel broke out between the youngsters following which families got involved,” he said adding that four members of Jabar’s family including him were arrested.

The cross cases have been registered on charges of attempt to murder based on Devender’s complaint and attempt to commit culpable homicide on Jabar’s complaint.

No arrests so far

Sources said that no arrests have been made so far in the former’s case.

According to a senior police officer, Jabar’s side fired at Devender’s side following which the latter’s side thrashed the former’s.

Area cordoned

A resident who did not wish to be named said that the area is cordoned by several teams of police and the shopkeepers were asked to keep their shops shut on Friday.

“The situation in the area is tense. A lot of police officers are manning the streets especially near the mosque to make sure the situation doesn’t turn volatile” she said. The police said that the injured is recuperating at a private hospital and is said to be out of danger.
