Man rescued after falling down South West cave

Emergency services have rescued a 57-year-old man who fell down a cave face in WA's South West on Friday afternoon.

The man was exploring the area in Boranup Forest with his wife and two children when he fell three to four metres down a steep rocky embankment while looking into a cave.

He had managed to make his way back up to the flat ground but needed urgent medical assistance.

St John Ambulance and WA Police were called just after 12:30pm on Friday.

At about the same time police from South West Traffic were conducting patrols on Caves Road and were waved down by members of the public.

A multi-agency rescue including local police, the Parks and Wildlife Service, State Emergency Service and St John Ambulance was initiated.

The man was carried out on a stretcher to an ambulance by State Emergency Service volunteers and was taken to Margaret River Hospital by St John Ambulance for treatment to suspected head, abdominal and shoulder injuries.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
