Lallana has only recently returned from a long-term lay-off and Klopp was easing his attacker back into the team.
But during today’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace the former Southampton man suffered a damning blow.
The 29-year-old was introduced as a substitute on the 65th minute with the score tied at 1-1.
But within five minutes Lallana was forced to withdraw injured and Klopp explained that his playmaker is “really down”.
The news will also be a blow to England boss Gareth Southgate who may now have to look elsewhere when picking his 23-man squad for Russia, if the worst news is confirmed by the doctors over the coming days.
It is not good, he is really down in the dressing room
"It is not good, he is really down in the dressing room,” Klopp said.
“He's our boy, our best friend.
“It is really difficult, whatever injury it looks like a muscle one."
Liverpool came from behind to beat Crystal Palace thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
And Klopp was delighted in the fighting spirit his players showed to rescue a result.

"Maximum credit to my players,” Klopp added.
“It's very difficult after the international break because we are all used to a specific training intensity and then the players go away to different teams.
"You saw it was difficult and really intense today with the atmosphere as it was, but in the end I think it was really well deserved.
“We got two wonderful goals after a tough start.”
