PATIALA: A 30-year-old married woman allegedly attempted suicide on Thursday evening by jumping before the train in Patiala near city railway station. The victim was immediately rushed to Government Rajindra Hospital where doctors termed her condition as serious and later referred her to for the higher institute.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) revealed that the woman lost her right leg as it was crushed under the train while her left leg was fractured. The police have registered a report of the incident, but are yet to register the case as the victim was not fit to give any statement.

The police claimed that statement of the train driver is yet to be recorded and it is still not clear whether the woman had made an attempt to commit suicide or she was rammed by the train while illegally crossing over the rail track.

ASI Jasbir Singh, GRP Patiala, said, “The incident took place around 8pm on Thursday near railway crossing No.18 in the city and the victim is identified as Lakhwinder Kaur of Barnala. We have recorded the statement of victim’s sister Jaswinder Kaur who works as a pharmacist in the government hospital in Model Town area in the city. The right leg of the woman was crushed and she has now been referred to CMC Ludhiana for further treatment. Prima facia it seems that the woman made an attempt to commit suicide by jumping before the train as the path is not convenient for anyone to cross the railway track from the crime spot. We will register the case soon after recording the statements of the victim family and the train driver.”
