Mahaveer Jayanti celebrated in Belagavi

Mahaveer Jayanti was celebrated across the district on Thursday. A procession was taken out in the morning. Assistant Commissioner Kavita Yogappanavar inaugurated the celebrations.

Young boys dressed up as Jain monks sat in meditation as several folk artists performed along the procession.

The procession began in the old city and went around the main streets of the city.

Members of various Jain organisations had prepared around 25 tableaux depicting various facets of Mahaveer’s life.

Organisations like JITO, Jain Yuvak Mandal and zilla Jain Samaj provided drinking water, cold drinks and fruit juice to those who participated in the procession.

A book ‘Summit of Peace’ brought out by The Hindu was released on the occasion.

Community leaders like MLA Sanjay Patil, Vinod Doddannanavar, Kuntinath Kalimani, and others were present.
