Passengers stop train

Protest by passengers demanding filling of coaches with water led to delay in departure of the Mumbai – Nagercoil Express by over an hour here on Thursday night.

The train arrived at the junction at 7.35 p.m. and passengers got down from the train and demanded that water be filled in all the coaches.

The train was scheduled to depart at 8.10 p.m. However, water was not filled up and the train was about to depart.

Angry passengers pulled the emergency chain and the train was stopped. They staged protest and raised slogans demanding filling of water.

They said that throughout their journey there is no water in the train causing hardship to them. When asked railway officials, they said water would be filled up at Erode junction.

Officials said there is no water in the junction and added that water will be filled up in Dindigul junction. But passengers said that until water is filled they will not board the train.

Later, railway officials filled water in all the coaches and the train departed at 9.25 p.m., a delay of 70 minutes.
