Injured in road accident, Mumbai dentist loses battle for life

MUMBAI: A 25-year-old dentist, who had sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Mumbai, died on Friday after fighting for life for the past six days.

Dr Dipali Lahamate was hit by a car near the Taraporewala Aquarium on Marine Drive signal on March 24 while on her way to JJ Gymkhana to attend the convocation ceremony of her younger brother who had completed his MBBS.


Dipali, an intern at Nair Dental College had suffered serious injuries to her head and upper body in the accident.


Police said Shikha Jhaveri, a teacher by profession, was driving the car.


Eyewitnesses said Jhaveri tried to flee from the spot. However, a biker chased her and managed to intercept her car at the next traffic signal. The biker took Jhaveri to the Marine Lines police station where an FIR was lodged against her. She was arrested and later released on bail on March 24.
