Passengers at Stansted airport's main terminal were evacuated on Friday after a fire on a car park shuttle bus sent plumes of smoke billowing across the building's forecourt.
Stansted Airport's official Twitter accounted tweeted: "Due to a fire on the car park shuttle bus, terminal forecourt and surrounded area including parts of the terminal building are being evacuated due to smoke. We are investigating this as a matter of urgency and will provide an update shortly."
Black clouds were seen rising from the are in front of the airport, although the exact cause it not yet known.
Pictures taken from in front of the main entrance showed flames coming from the area directly above a passenger walkway and in front of the doors into the terminal.
The fire was also clearly visible to passengers who remained inside the building.
