A battle royale seems to be on cards in Varuna Assembly constituency in Mysuru district. The constituency, presently represented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Legislative Assembly, is likely to see a clash between the sons of the state's
two most prominent politicians.

While the Congress is most likely to give the ticket to Siddaramaiah's son Dr Yathindra, the BJP is seriously mulling over fielding party state president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's son B Y Vijayendra from Varuna.

Siddaramaiah, who represents the constituency since 2008, has announced that he will be contesting from neighbouring Chamundeshwari segment.

The BJP feels that the large number of Lingayats, to which Vijayendra belongs, in the Varuna constituency, could turn the tide in his favour.

Members of the BJP unit of the Varuna Assembly segment, on Friday, submitted a memorandum to BJP president Amit Shah to field Vijayendra from there.

Varuna BJP president
A N Shivaiah, general secretary Chikkamadappa, Gurumallamma and Shivabasappa, in the memorandum, have stated that BJP has developed at the grassroots level in the Varuna Assembly segment.   Out of seven Zilla Panchayat seats under Varuna constituency, BJP has won four.

Similarly, out of 26 taluk panchayat seats 12 members are from the BJP.

They stated in the memorandum that Vijayendra is an appropriate candidate and can take Dr Yathindra head on. Incidentally, Vijayendra, a businessman, and Dr Yathindra, a medical doctor, are both political greenhorns.

They claimed that they need protection from the Congressmen and there is a need to prevent the misuse of the official machinery by the supporters of the chief minister.
