Zip line funds could be better spent

Shouldn’t the money proposed for constructing a zip line across the Cedar River so people can fly Tarzan-like from one shore to another be better spent to maintain, renovate and preserve existing neighborhood elementary schools (or even build zip line for children above grassy playgrounds) or contribute to the development of neglected neighborhoods?

Does this community need another tourist attraction? Look at all the time and money wasted trying to site and build a casino. Also, that money could be used to relocate historically important structures such as the Bever building, which is scheduled for demolition to make way for the new and beautiful Skogman real estate office building to be located at First Avenue and Fifth Street SE.

Zonked-out teenagers and thrill-seeking old ladies don’t need a zip line across the Cedar River. Monkeys in zoos need zip lines. People don’t.
