Lincoln Says Production Aviator Will Look Just Like The Prototype

The appealing looks of the Lincoln Aviator prototype from the New York Auto Show are set to be featured on the road-going model.

According to Lincoln design boss David Woodhouse, who recently spoke with Road & Track, the show car is almost identical to the production version.

The automaker remains hush about the Aviator’s platform and drivetrain but has confirmed that it utilizes a twin-turbo engine complete with plug-in hybrid technology. While the Aviator is smaller than the Navigator, it doesn’t skimp on luxurious interior features and creature comforts.

Included in the show car are a 12-inch infotainment display with the Co-Pilot 360 suite of driver-assist technologies. The Aviator also includes an advanced suspension system that scans the road ahead of adjusts the ride accordingly.

When optioned solely with the aforementioned twin-turbo engine, the Aviator will be rear-wheel drive. If owners opt for the hybrid, an all-wheel drive system will funnel power to the ground.

Lincoln hopes that the new Aviator will prove more successful than the revived Continental which, despite its high-end interior, failed to ever sell in the numbers Ford would have wanted. Owing to the fact that it is an SUV, the Aviator could very well prove more popular than the Continental.

Well, I sure hope so! This looks amazing. Lincoln finally has a winner. It looks much better than the Navigator too

Nicer than any SUV Cadillac will ever produce.

    • Moveon Libtards

Lol. Except Cadillac has sold millions of SUVs while Lincoln keeps talkimg about that oh-so-amazing future.

The Aviator is a nice concept, but Lincoln has been a disaster in sales and has no global footprint like Cadillac does in China, etc. The Cadillac Escalade sales have always been amazing with hefty profit margins. The XT5 has also been a sales success.

It seems Lincoln has clear focus, whereas Cadillac has no idea what it wants to be.

Reluctantly, I have to agree, at least for the near-term. To play the devils advocate, the current Escalade is already 4 years old, but if a facelift can’t wow me, then the only way to top the Aviator would be the 5th gen Escalade.

      LOL

This looks great! Nice work, team Lincoln!

I’d take this over any of its competitors any day.. Lincoln has just been resurrected! Hopefully the new explorers will share similar looks— just hope they don’t use the ugly expedition’s interior!!

    • Moveon Libtards

Looks great, but still a concept and no sales date. Let’s hope Ford doesnt screw it up like they usually do with Lincoln.

    • layer8pro

Not too similar… Explorers looking too much like this would water down Lincoln’s progress…

  • They will sell lots of these…

  • TrevP

    Keep the quad exhaust!

      The best comment ever!

Sometimes it’s just not your week.

On top of crashed cars, autonomous vehicle fatalities, production targets plunging, and ratings downgrades, Elon Musk’s car-making company is tumbling after-hours following reports of the recall of 123,000 Model S Sedans.

AP reports that Tesla is recalling 123,000 sedans worldwide to fix a problem with the power-assisted steering.

The recall covers all Model S sedans built before April of 2016.

Three bolts holding the power steering motor in place can corrode and either come loose or break, possibly causing a loss of power steering. Manual steering would still work.

Tesla says the problem happens infrequently in places where salt is used to clear snow and ice from roads. It’s recalling all the cars even in warm-weather states just in case.

No crashes or injuries have been reported.

Service centers will replace the bolts with ones that are more corrosion-resistant. Owners will be notified Thursday by email. Tesla says replacement parts will be available first in cold-weather areas, then in warmer climates.

And the reaction is clear after-hours…

    good decision

“Lincoln Says Production Aviator Will Look Just Like The Prototype”………which looks just like the real thing, Range Rover Sport.

Not too tall an order when you steal everyone else’s design cues, Linc.

      K.

        Double K.

I’m really excited about this vehicle! Ive been liking the direction Lincoln has been going, I’ve been planning an SUV for my next vehicle and this is now the top of my list!

  • LWOAP

Only the mirrors and quad exhaust will be ditched.

  • Harry_Wild

The Continental and other luxury full size sedans buyers have to full and large size luxury SUV/crossover models. The Aviator will be my next new vehicle if it is priced close to that of the current Continental with base price of around $50K!

  • SgtBeavis

I just can’t say enough about how much I like this. If I can get one for $50-60K I think I’ll be very seriously considering it when my Jag’s lease is up.

  • Bash

This is good news, I mean the interior is even better than the latest descovery, or even some Range Rover. Here I go I said it.

    • Victor Ferreira

I agree. Not to mention that – ironically – I trust Ford’s reliability way more than Land Rover. And I’m typically a GM guy.

  • BlackPegasus

Yeah whatever. They said the same thing about the Continental and we got a watered down car you only see in Black Car Livery fleets. 😒
