Trains delayed as electric wire snaps

Eight long-distance trains were detained at various railway stations in the early hours of Friday due to the snapping of an electric wire between Kagangarai, and Tirupathur Railway Station in the Salem – Jolarpet section.

The Madurai-Chennai Duronto Express was detained at Kagangarai railway station; Tiruvananthapuram-Chennai Mail also at Kagangarai station; Mangaluru-Chennai Express at Samalpatti station; Ernakulam-Chennai special train at Doddampatti station; Kochuveli-Bengaluru express at Morappur station; Tiruvananthapuram-Shalimar express at Lokur station; Tiruvanathapuram–Chennai express at Karuppur station; and Ernakulam-Hyderabad special express was detained at Bommidi railway station, an official press release of Salem Railway Division here has said.

Traffic was restored by 9.45 a.m.

Commercial Branch of Salem Division along with passengers associations provided tea, coffee, and water to stranded passengers.

The Tirupathur Passengers Welfare Association helped the railway staff in supplying the refreshments in Kagangarai railway station; local tea shop and hotel owners at Samalpatti, Doddampatti, Dasampatti, Morappur, Bommidi, and Buddireddipatti stations along with the station ticket booking agents in the respective stations.
