Signature campaign launched seeking the coveted status

TDP leaders and activists celebrated the party’s 37th Foundation Day by garlanding the statue of party founder N.T. Rama Rao here on Thursday.

The Telugu Yuvata kicked-started a signature campaign in support of the Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

Finance Minister and district in charge Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said there was a vast difference between the TDP and other political parties. The party had its own identity and image in national politics. The party had played a significant role in national politics ever since its inception. The TDP was striving hard to get the provisions of the A.P. Reorganisation Act implemented in letter and spirit, he said. The Centre had deceived the people of Andhra Pradesh on the SCS front. Even while saying that SCS would not be accorded to any State, the Centre was extending it to a few. Only Andhra Pradesh was denied its right, he said.

Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana Rao, MLC Bachula Arjunudu, Krishna district Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Bandaru Hanumantha Rao, Kanaka Durga temple chairman Yalamanchili Gouranga Babu, TDP State secretary Gottipati Ramakrishna Prasad, and VGTMUDA former chairman Tumati Premnath were present.

NTR’s services recalled

They recalled the services rendered by N.T. Rama Rao in establishing the TDP in 1982.

They said only TDP could serve the people in a better way and protect the interests of the downtrodden sections.
