GREELEY — Jordan Davis had no intention of allowing Illinois-Chicago to rally.
After the Flames went on an 8-o run with three minutes remaining Friday night in CollegeInsider.com championship game, Davis answered with a layup to put Northern Colorado ahead by three points.
With one final defensive stop, the Bears closed the game with Davis assisting on a dunk by Jalen Sanders to beat UIC 76-71 and notch the first postseason tournament victory in school history.
It also was the first-ever postseason tournament win by a Big Sky Conference team.
Davis finished with 29 points, eight rebounds and three assists, followed by fellow guard Andre Spight with 23 points.
Marcus Ottey led the Flames in scoring with 25 points.
Although UIC (20-16) kept it close in the second half, UNC (26-12) never relinquished its lead and set the school's record for victories in a season.
Spight, who scored 40 points in Wednesday night's 99-80 home semifinal win over Sam Houston State, was named the tournament's MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Davis and redshirt-sophomore guard Jonah Radebaugh.
