Differences between Telugu Desam groups come to the fore again

The bickerings between Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and A.V. Subba Reddy, a close associate of her late father Bhuma Nagi Reddy, came into the open with Mr. Subba Reddy declaring on Thursday that he would wage a political fight against the Minister.

Helpline

“I will contest for the Assembly from the Allagadda constituency if given a chance by the TDP leadership,” Mr. Reddy, former A.P. State Rural Irrigation Corporation chairman, said while launching the “AV Helpline“ and addressing party activists at Allagadda in Kurnool district. Taking objection to the Minister not inviting him to Nagi Reddy’s first death anniversary meeting recently, he resented her remarks that he was a “sly fox” in her address in the meeting.

The TDP leader remarked that Nagi Reddy’s soul would have been pained at his absence in the meeting and his daughter’s remarks.

Mr. Subba Reddy maintained that he did not aspire for the Nandyal MLA ticket on Bhuma Nagi Reddy’s death though the party functionaries and local people had asked him to do so but then that the Assembly ticket should be given to late MLA Sobha Nagi Reddy’s family. “That is my character,” he said drawing cheers from his followers. Announcing the launch of the helpline, he urged the people of Allagadda to call his mobile number 70933 82333 if they faced any problem. He assured steps to resolve them as they were being neglected by the Minister.

He said his political fight was not against the Bhuma family but against Ms. Akhila Priya, her attitude, her notions and neglect of the party leaders and activists.

Asserting that the TDP activists urged him to contest from Allagadda in the next election, Mr. Subba Reddy said he would abide by the decision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and contest the polls if the high command directed him.

Mr. Subba Reddy assured to strive to strengthen the party in the Nandyal and the Allagadda constituencies. As differences cropped up between Ms. Akhila Priya and Mr. Subba Reddy earlier, Mr. Naidu reportedly directed them to work with coordination to help the ruling party win the Nandyal bypoll.

The differences surfaced again causing concern among the party leaders. On the eve of Mr. Reddy’s meeting with followers, Ms. Priya rushed back from Vijayawada and held discussions with important functionaries at Nandyal late on Wednesday night before proceeding to Allagadda.

Incidentally, the differences surfaced on TDP Formation Day.
