SYCAMORE – A public hearing on the city of Sycamore’s proposed fiscal 2019 budget will be held during Monday's City Council meeting.

General fund expenditures are estimated to be slightly less than the anticipated revenues for the city of Sycamore’s 2019 fiscal year starting May 1. Capital and special funds for the fiscal year are also estimated to remain balanced.

The estimated general fund reserve balance will be roughly $5.8 million, or roughly 35 percent of operating expenses.

Based on a commitment from the City Council toward capital infrastructure improvements, some of the projects budget in the fiscal 2019 capital program included a $1.7 million street maintenance program, sidewalk improvements on some of the most hazardous walkways and construction on the third phase of the wastewater treatment plant.

Streets targeted for repair include Washington Place, Exchange Street, Airport Road, Maertz Drive, Locust Street, Old State road, Coltonville Road, Bethany Road, Woodgate Drive, Sycamore Street and Borden Avenue.

The preliminary budget is on the City’s website, www.cityofsycamore.com, on reserve at the Sycamore Public Library, 103 E. State St. and available for purchase at cost in the City Clerk’s Office. An additional public hearing will be held on April 16 at which time the City Council will take action on a finalized budget.

The City Council meeting will meet at 7 p.m. in the Sycamore City Center at 308 W. State St.
