Budding archer T. Kalyan from Mulakalapalli has bagged an opportunity to represent the State men’s archery team in the Senior National Archery Championship to be held in Pune from April 4 to 13.

Kalyan, a degree second year student, secured third place in the ‘Indian round’ of the State-level archery championship conducted by Telangana Archery Association in Hyderabad on Friday, sources said.

He was one among the 15-member team that represented the undivided Khammam district in the State-level event.

Three more members of the district squad also fared well in the Indian round and recurve category of the championship, the sources added.

Kalyan had earlier undergone vigorous training in archery under the aegis of District Archery Association, said the Association general secretary and noted archery coach Putta Shankaraiah.

Kalyan, who hails from the tribal sub-plan mandal of Mulakalapalli, has a natural flair for archery. He had excelled in two national-level competitions, including the All India Inter-University Archery Championship held in Andhra Pradesh last year.
