The Gauhati High Court will set up exclusive Fast Track courts in all districts of Assam for day-to-day trial of cases of rape and murder of women and children in the state. The decision was taken after Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court in this regard.
Rattled by March 22 rape and murder of a minor at Batadrawa in Nagaon district, the Chief Minister on March 26 had written to the Chief Justice to consider setting up of fast-track courts for early disposal of rape and murder cases of children and women.
In response, an administrative committee of the High Court has resolved to work out modalities and submit a report in this regard by tomorrow. Meanwhile, Mr. Sonowal yesterday inaugurated “Women Helpline 181” to provide 24 hours assistance to women affected by violence.
He directed all the Superintendents of Police to facilitate swift filing of charge-sheet in all crimes against women and children for delivering justice at the earliest.
