‘PUBG’ 4x4 Island Salvage Map Test Server Dates Revealed - How to Get a Key
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds fans have been speculating about the 4x4 Island map since it was first revealed in the game’s 2018 yearly outline. Today via a Steam Community post, PUBG Corporation announced it won’t be long before fans can get a taste of the new arena, now known as Codename: Salvage.
WHAT ARE THE DATES & TIMES FOR ‘PUBG’S 4X4 TEST SERVER?
The first wave of Salvage tests is set to begin April 2 at 10 p.m. EDT through April 8 at 7 p.m. EDT. The very first test is described as a “limited test,” so many casual and hardcore PUBG players may not be invited.
HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE NEW MAP’S TEST SERVER?
PUBG Corp. has not revealed specific details for participation, but promised to do so on Monday. As a hint of what’s to come, the developer said fans should watch all PUBG social channels to maximize their chance of success. That being said, we imagine the test will initially function on a limited key system. It’s possible keys may be sent to some players at random, but you may also have to seek them out too.
In that case, here are the PUBG social links you should be keeping track of: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch and Steam. Any one of these places is likely to offer keys starting Monday.
Those who are unable to participate in this first wave of tests shouldn’t feel too discouraged. Because the 4x4 map is so early on in development, there will be many more opportunities to test in the future. In advance of any possible disappointment, PUBG Corp. has already promised that “the next test will be bigger.”

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT ‘PUBG’S ISLAND MAP?
Not much has been revealed about the map beyond its 4x4 size, roughly half the size of a standard PUBG map. A brief tease at GDC showcased the landscape’s rolling hills, winding river and claustrophobic villages, but it’s still hard to get a sense of how the Asian-inspired space will play. Its smaller size will likely make gameplay more chaotic, but we don’t know that for sure.
A public release date is not known at this time, but Salvage is one of two maps planned to arrive within the calendar year. PUBG Corp. seems keen to take its time given recent negativity surrounding the Miramar desert map. By starting testing earlier than before, the developers hope to gather lots of feedback.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on PC and in Game Preview on Xbox One. Speaking of Miramar, you may want to check out the flare gun event mode happening there this weekend.
