Belagavi: Police will take action against the provocative speech of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut late Thursday night at a private programme here. With regard to the Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute, Raut said Maharashtra was with Marathi-speaking people on the Karnataka border. He added that the Marathi language issue is close to his heart, and he’ll speak on it although the model code of conduct is in force. ‘I’m not afraid; I’m ready to take on a hundred cases,” he said.

City police commissioner DC Rajappa said action would be initiated against all those who made provocative speeches and those who allowed the premises to be used for it under the PIC and Representation of the People’s Act and Religion Institution (Prevention of Misuse Act) after taking legal opinion.

He said the organizers had violated the first point in the code of conduct for political parties.
