Pune: School Education Minister Vinod Tawde recently said that there will soon be a hike in the scholarship amount offered to students clearing the scholarship exams in Std V and Std VII. This will be a positive move in the direction of helping students through the scholarship and increasing the number of students appearing for scholarship examinations.

The minister said there will be a significant hike in the amount of scholarship according to the population census of 2011. At present, the scholarship amount is Rs 100 per month, which has not changed ever since the examination began way back in 1954 (which was earlier for Std IV and VII).

With passing years and increasing cost of education, however, the money offered to the students as scholarship never increased. Instead, the number of students appearing for these examinations saw a fall over the years. Considering all this, the education minister has given an immediate approval to raise the amount of scholarship, which will be decided soon.
