The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct re-examination for Class XII economics and Class X mathematics papers after the reports of alleged paper leaks. Students appeared for the Class X Mathematics paper on Wednesday while the Class XII Economics paper was held on March 26. The Delhi Police has registered an FIR into the alleged leaks and handed over the investigation to the Crime Branch.
The notice issued by the board said, “With the view to uphold the sanctity of the board examinations and in the interest of the fairness to the students, the board has decided to re-conduct the examinations”. The new dates for the exams will be uploaded on the website within a week. 16,38,428 students had registered for Class X exams and a total of 11,86,306 students had registered for Class XII.
According to some reports, the panic gripped students of Class XII after the question paper of the Class XII Economics examination was allegedly circulated on some WhatsApp groups on Monday ahead of the examination even as the CBSE denied the leak.
On the other hand, some parents and students are planning to move to the Delhi High Court seeking re-examination and independent probe on the issue. These parents and students claim that even the Class X Social studies and Class XII biology exam paper were also leaked among others.
A CBSE official however denied the reports of paper leak. “We have checked with all examination centres and the paper was not leaked. The source of the circulation of this information is not known yet. We want to urge the students and parents to not panic and assure them that the board is doing its best to ensure the sanctity of the examination,” said a CBSE official. Reports of the question paper being leaked circulated through social media and WhatsApp several hours before the paper commenced.
“Some miscreants may have circulated messages through WhatsApp and other social media platforms to hurt the sanctity of the exam. The board has decided to take strict action against such activities. An FIR is being lodged,” said the CBSE official.
As per the CBSE guidelines, if a leak is proved then the board has to re-conduct the exam. In 2014, the board has to re-conduct the exam in Manipur as the physics paper was leaked on a website. In 2006 too, the Business Studies paper was leaked. Since the papers were recovered before the exam, it was held as scheduled after the paper was replaced.Board aspirants and their parents took to Twitter to express their anger.
On the other hand the majority of the Class X students who appeared in their Mathematics paper on Wednesday said that the paper was very easy and there was nothing out of the CBSE syllabus. This was the last main paper for the class X students. Students and teachers told that some of the questions were straight from the NCERT text books and most of the students admitted answering the question paper within time.
