Stocks rebound to book weekly gain, but end lower for the quarter

Stocks rose sharply on Thursday to pull its benchmark indexes back into positive territory for the week, trimming the quarterly losses seen after fears of a global trade war and a selloff in tech shares weighed on indexes. The S&P 500 SPX, +1.38% picked up 37 points, or 1.4%, to 2,642. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.07% advanced 311 points, or 1.3%, to 24,160. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, +1.64% was up 114 points, or 1.6%, to 7,063. For the quarter, the S&P 500 was down 1.2%, the Dow down 2.3%, while the Nasdaq was up 2.3%.
