Fake bank busted in Ballia, one held

VARANSI: A fake branch of Karnataka Bank was busted in Mulayam Nagar of Phephna area in Ballia district on Wednesday. Cops arrested one man in this connection and recovered Rs 1.37 lakh from him.

The arrested Aafaq Ahmed from Badaun was operating this branch as manager by mentioning his name as Vinod Kumar Kambali of Mumbai West. Ahmed also possessed fake Aadhaar and other identities by this name. Cops said Ahmed had collected Rs 1.37 lakh by opening 15 saving accounts and fix deposits of local people. A huge stash of stationery - including forms, pass books, three computers, laptop, furniture and other articles - was also seized by police.


According to CO City Hitendra Krishna, an additional general manager of Bank of Karnataka, BBH Upadhyaya, along with his subordinates from Varanasi office, reached Ballia in the afternoon and informed cops about operation of a fake branch of this bank. Following this, Krishna, along with bank officials and a heavy police force raided the 'fake bank' which was being run from the house of an ex-armyman in Mulayam Nagar.
