Dow's 450-point surge powered by 70-point lift from Boeing's stock

The Dow Jones Industrial Average marked fresh session highs in the last hour of trading Thursday afternoon, with markets closed in observance of Good Friday tomorrow. Shares of Boeing Co. BA, +2.46% rallied more than 3% and were contributing nearly 70 points to the Dow's late-afternoon advance. The Dow DJIA, +1.07% was most recently up 450 points, or 1.8%, at 24,281. Apple AAPL, +0.78% shares also were delivering a jolt to the price-weighted average. Microsoft Corp.'s stock MSFT, +2.10% gained amid reports that it was undergoing a major reorganization. Technology shares have been under pressure for much of the abbreviated trading week, on the heels of worries surrounding Facebook Inc.'s handling of user data. However, Facebook's shares [: FB] were rebounding up 5.4% on the day, underscoring a recovery for the sector which has seen some of its most prominent names tumble. The technology-laden Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, +1.64% was up 2.4% at 7,114, while the S&P 500 index SPX, +1.38% rallied 2% at 2,657. All three benchmarks were on track to book weekly gains. For the Dow, shares of UnitedHealth Group Inc. UNH, -2.06% up 1.9%, also was helping lift blue chips.
