NEW DELHI: The lack of toilets in Noida's government offices is causing female employees discomfort and inconvenience, and forcing them to seek transfers.
In fact, out of 24 government departments, only two have
toilet facilities. However, they do not have separate toilets for women.
For instance, the weights and measurements department in Sector 11, the post office in Sector 24, and several departments in Sector 20 do not have toilets.
The campus of the city magistrate office in Sector 19 houses eight to 10 government departments, which employ 15-20 women employees each.
Daily, 20-25 anganvadi and BLO women visit the campus - that is, 100-150 women come here everyday - and still, there is no provision of women's toilets.
There is only one public toilet, which is in bad shape.
Priyanka Rai, an inspector at the regional food department in Sector 6, had to request a transfer simply because there were no toilets in her office building.
Instead, she would go all the way to a different building to attend nature's call. The situation worsened on Saturday and Sunday, when other offices would remain closed.
Currently, there are no women inspectors in this office.
What makes the problem worse is that men and women use the same toilets, which are filled with filth and infection-causing germs, and lead to many women catching UTI infections.
