Fire at two factories in Malur

Property worth lakhs of rupees was lost as two factories in Malur industrial area caught fire on Thursday. But there were no casualties. Timely operation by the police and fire tender personnel prevented the fire from spreading to other industrial units in the area.

A chemical factory first caught fire due to suspected short-circuit. The blaze spread to a nearby spare parts manufacturing unit. The Drums which were filled with the chemicals and stored in the factory caught fire one by one.

The police and fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot and a number of fire tenders worked to douse the blaze. Workers inside both the units rushed out and ran to safety.

There were only a few workers in the chemical factory as it was a week-off day for the unit. Those who were present tried in vain to douse the fire and ran out when they could not control it.

According to police and fire and emergency services personnel the cause for the mishap was yet to be ascertained.
